TLA has released a legal awareness video on “Child Sexual Abuse” for the month of May. The goal of this video is to raise awareness about sexual abuse and harassment within the Tibetan community, specifically concerning children.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act offers protection to individuals below the age of 18 from sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography. The Act identifies various offences related to child sexual abuse and outlines punishment for offenders, as well as improved methods for apprehending them.
According to the POCSO Act, individuals under 18 are considered children, and the Act is gender-neutral. It aims to prevent re-victimization of victims, facilitates child-friendly investigation, and ensures a special court for these cases. The Act also mandates the reporting of sexual offences and protects the confidentiality of the victim.
