On 29 December 2025<\/strong>, the Tibetan Legal Association (TLA)<\/strong>, in collaboration with the Central Tibetan Administration\u2019s Women\u2019s Empowerment Desk<\/strong>, conducted an intensive legal training session on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023<\/strong>, India\u2019s new criminal law framework. The session was facilitated by TLA lawyers Mr. Yargyal and Mr. Rinchen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training was attended by staff members from the Women\u2019s Empowerment Desk<\/strong> and the Tibetan Women\u2019s Helpline Desk<\/strong> and was held at the main office of the Women\u2019s Empowerment Desk under the Central Tibetan Administration<\/strong>. The objective of the session was to enhance participants\u2019 practical understanding of the new criminal law<\/strong> and strengthen their capacity to respond effectively to cases involving gender-based violence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key topics covered during the session included the fundamental principles governing criminal trials in India<\/strong>, procedures for the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs)<\/strong>, and relevant provisions of the BNS Act concerning offences against women and children<\/strong>. The trainers also highlighted changes introduced under the new law, procedural safeguards, and the importance of timely and accurate legal intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was conducted in an interactive and participatory manner<\/strong>, with participants actively engaging through questions, case-based discussions, and scenario analysis. This practical approach enabled participants to better understand how to apply legal provisions in real-life situations<\/strong>, particularly when supporting survivors seeking guidance or redress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training was both timely and impactful<\/strong>, as cases of gender-based violence often first reach the Tibetan Women\u2019s Helpline<\/strong> or the Women\u2019s Empowerment Desk<\/strong>. Strengthening the legal knowledge of frontline staff is therefore critical to ensuring informed referrals, proper documentation, and survivor-centered responses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TLA expresses its appreciation to the Women\u2019s Empowerment Desk<\/strong> for the collaboration and looks forward to continuing this meaningful partnership to further strengthen legal awareness, institutional capacity, and community-based response mechanisms<\/strong> in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
